Trump to be sentenced today, guilty in porn star case: accused of paying to silence; The Supreme Court has convicted him in 34 cases

Donald Trump, convicted in the porn star case, will be sentenced today.  On May 30, the court found Trump guilty of paying porn star Stormi Daniels to silence her and falsifying business records during the campaign.

The former president was found guilty on 34 charges in a trial that lasted nearly six weeks in New York.  This case happened before he was elected as the US President in 2016.

This is the first time in US history that a criminal case has been filed against a President since his revelations.

What are the 34 charges against Trump?
Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records.  All these allegations are related to paying 1 lakh 30 thousand dollars (about 1 crore 7 lakh rupees) to porn star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet before the 2016 presidential election.
11 charges relate to signing of cheques.  Another 11 charges relate to false invoices Cohen submitted to the company, and the remaining 12 charges relate to providing false information in records.

Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, alleged that he paid Stormi at Trump’s behest to keep her from speaking out about the affair with Trump before the 2016 election.

It is alleged that Trump returned the money to Cohen after becoming president.  For this he gave several checks to Cohen for 10 months.  They showed it in the records as legal fees, which were actually payments made to cover up the crime.

The document accompanying the charges alleges that Trump repeatedly provided false information in New York business records in order to conceal his crime and gain an electoral advantage.

On April 5, 2023, a 34-count indictment was framed against Trump in a Manhattan court.

Punishment may be delayed
It remains to be seen whether Trump will be jailed as punishment or released after paying a fine.  However, according to a Bloomberg report, it may take some time for Trump to be punished.  Earlier this month, the US Supreme Court handed down a major decision in favor of Donald Trump.

The court said that official decisions taken during Trump’s presidency cannot be prosecuted.  However, the Supreme Court referred the case to a lower court to decide what is official and what is not.

In such a situation, regarding the sentence to be given on July 11, Trump’s lawyers have appealed to the judge that according to the decision of the Supreme Court, the former president’s sentence should be canceled now.  Now Judge March will have to decide whether to overturn Trump’s conviction.
